About Us

We started the Virginia Sea Kayak Center because we are passionate about kayaking and enjoy helping others expand their skills and experiences on the water. We have a combined background of more than 15 years of kayaking experience, with additional boating and canoeing backgrounds as well.

The Virginia Sea Kayak Center is led by Ed Schiller and Tom Noffsinger, names familiar to many Virginia sea kayakers. Tom and Ed bring a wealth of teaching and paddling experience to their clients and strive to make every outing safe, fun and educational.

Ed is an ACA Open Water Coastal Kayaking instructor, ACA Coastal Kayaking Instructor Trainer, BCU 4 Star Sea certified and a VIMS/DEQ Certified Virginia EcoTour Guide. He is also a CPR and First Aid instructor. When he's not on the water Ed works in the modeling and simulation world. Be sure to ask him about his strip-built wooden kayak.

Tom is an ACA Open Water Coastal Kayaking instructor , BCU 4 Star Sea and has extensive experience as a guide and instructor. Tom runs a web development and marketing company, Thomas Website Design, and is also a woodworker and motorcyclist.

We are committed to outstanding customer service, increasing kayak skills and safety, and above all, enjoying our time on the water.

Other Staff: 

Amy is one of our guides and resident culinary expert. An accomplished paddler, Amy enjoys paddling with dolphins. She is a CPR and First Aid Instructor.
